Obesity is described as a physique mass index of 30 or more This condition is considered an epidemic in First World countries such as the United States. Poor countries, where thousands of people are malnourished, also have their share of overweight people.

According to recent studies, there are over 300 million people worldwide who are overweight. Statistics also show that more than 300,000 people die from obesity in the United States each year. Unfortunately, the rising obesity rate appears to be continuing in many countries.

This alarming situation is determined by several factors, although the main cause is an unhealthy diet. Diet and obesity go hand in hand because what we eat definitely affects our weight.

Causes of obesity

As mentioned above, there are several causes of obesity. These are metabolism, the environment, medical or psychiatric diseases, genes, culture, and lifestyle. Genes can lead to obesity based on recent studies.

People with two copies of the gene associated with fat mass and obesity (the FTO gene) are at higher risk of obesity. In addition, some theories, such as the frugal gene hypothesis, suggest that certain ethnic groups are at higher risk of obesity.

Culture, behavior, environment, and lifestyle can also lead to obesity. These four factors are generally related. A sedentary lifestyle can be influenced by a person's culture, environment, and behavior.

Because of this, most children whose parents are obese are likely to become obese in the future. A sedentary lifestyle and physical activity are major contributors to people becoming obese.

Diet and Obesity

Diet and obesity are linked because whatever we eat and drink affects our bodies. Typically, a person only needs 3,500 calories a day to function properly. The problem is, most people consume more than 3,500 these days because they eat high calorie foods. Sweets, sodas, and fast foods are some examples of high calorie foods that people love to eat.

Most people think that obesity is caused by excessive consumption of fat. However, fats, especially saturated fats, can actually add more pounds; It is the intake of too many carbohydrates that is the main culprit of obesity. Diet and obesity are definitely linked, so people should be careful about what they eat.

Even children can get obese these days. The fact that people nowadays prefer to eat fast foods, sweets, and processed foods instead of fruits and vegetables undoubtedly contribute to the dramatic rise in the obesity rate.

prevention

Since the link between poor diet and obesity has been established, people need to change their diet to a healthy one. It is recommended that you eat healthier than if you were eating more fruits and vegetables instead of processed foods.

Also, avoid sugary drinks as these are a major contributor to the accumulation of calories. Eating regularly is even better than eating between meals. There are many ways to eat regularly. Some dieters recommend small, frequent meals (5 meals) per day instead of three large meals.

Some people also say that not eating after 6 p.m. is also very effective. Obese people can also consult their doctor for a weight loss plan. In addition to your diet, exercise as much as possible to burn off excess calories. A daily 30-minute exercise is recommended.
