Is beauty only in the eye of the beholder or does the observer of beauty reflect his entire well-being? Beauty cults with quick fixes thrive, but as we choose what nourishes us physically, emotionally, and spiritually, we will find that a little self-discipline goes a long way in maintaining our natural beauty.
What is the top-secret to beauty and keeping a childlike complexion? The answer to that is really not as complex as one might think. There are people who are obsessed with the desire for "perfection" and will go to great lengths to chase it, especially now that we have the Nip & Tuck Beauty Club and Botox Brigade at our disposal. For those who have not yet lost and I fear we are getting less and less, please read on.
I recently had the opportunity to listen to a presentation by Geraldine Cox on their plight to save Cambodian orphans from their war-torn past. Many of the children she cares for have been severely disfigured by the cruelty of the war and as innocent farmers forced into slavery for fear of starvation. With someone who loves and cares for them, they have turned into thriving, happy children.
I have had first-hand experience with patients suffering from life-threatening diseases and I know that building confidence in the knowledge that everything is already perfect is critical to accepting what is happening. By projecting calm, loving thoughts and positive results, one can have a miraculous effect on each individual. This unshakable belief can fundamentally change the path in life from the fear of death and loss and bring about a miraculous recovery in severely immunocompromised patients.
You may be forgiven for what the hell this has to do with being beautiful and keeping your complexion young. Quite simply, one must take care of oneself in the same loving way as one would take care of another. And this is how your natural beauty regimen should begin.
1. By taking care of yourself and those around you. In other words, take care of everything you say and do. If you take advantage of others for your own greed and satisfaction, or if you are negligent with your affairs, how do you think that is reflected in your relationships? What kind of person do you think would find this behavior attractive?
2. Concentrate on achieving balance in your daily affairs and let peace enter. When your body and mind have peace and quiet, stress is removed from the equation. Take the time to pamper yourself a little. A holistic massage that relaxes and activates your own natural healing power can be incredibly calming and let ease and joy enter. You will then know to what extent you were stressed in the first place and how, with a little effort and common sense, health can show itself.
3. You are what you eat and what you think. If you keep filling yourself up with processed foods, your body is sure to suffer. There are very few minerals and vitamins in foods that are processed. So if you are overweight and stressed out by your lifestyle, bring back some discipline by exercising, eating fresh raw and lightly cooked vegetables, and unprocessed foods. Eat animal protein in small portions as needed.
4. Keep the intestines cleansed with plain yogurt (especially whey) and psyllium husk. Even Cleopatra from ancient Egypt practiced her own natural beauty regime. Part of this regimen was to aid colon cleansing by ingesting Senna leaves, a mild herbal laxative. All of these suggestions will help keep your skin clear and create healthy, internal bacteria to absorb minerals and vitamins. However, if you continue to use processed colas and chips on a daily basis, you are a waste of time. Over-all, we live in a society that is over-fed and starving. Vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids are therefore necessary for health and vitality. In fact, the breakdown of collagen caused by the lack of vitamin C is the main cause of the deterioration in the processes and condition of the skin, which leads to premature aging. That means smoking is a no-no! Moderate exercise is of course required to keep the body fit by improving blood flow and tone.
Understanding what your body needs nutritionally is important as we all have different requirements. Listening to your body's needs is often heightened during pregnancy and can often be seen in children who enjoy healthy foods naturally, when not influenced and tried by the over-frequent additions of sweets and processed ready-made meals.
5. Finally, the body's largest organ, the skin, needs to be looked after. Use high-quality aromatherapy skincare products that do not contain chemical and mineral fillers. Organic essential oils, cold-pressed essential carrier oils, and plant-based ingredients are far more effective and do not artificially plump the skin as some chemical formulations do. When you have stopped using chemicals in your beauty routine and household for a while, you will wonder how you ever tolerated their distinct artificial odor. Start by figuring out what skin type you are, e.g. sensitive, normal, acne/oily, dry or mature. Apply an aromatherapy cleansing lotion or facial cleansing scrub to your face. Treat yourself to a facial sauna to remove any impurities in the skin pores. Add a drop of Roman chamomile or rose essential oil to a bowl of steaming hot water and take a deep breath to increase physical and mental relaxation and enjoy time out! After your facial sauna, apply an aromatherapy toner appropriate for your skin type by gently wiping it off with a cotton pad and then rinsing your face with cold water to stimulate blood circulation. A French clay mask is also an effective means of firming the skin and contains natural minerals. Massage the face and neck with a facial oil that contains essential oils and cold-pressed carrier oils blended specifically for your skin type. You can gently blot off excess oil with a paper tissue and seal with a nice aromatherapy moisturizer. When you take care of yourself, you create a discipline for life. Voila! Balance and beauty!
